My Grandma Sondag

taken before she was married. The text I am using is from some memories of her and grandpa's life that she had written. They both worked very hard. (And I hate my job?!) Here is a little of what they did together for work.

"We then went spraying barns alot. Started that in 1938 til 1963. At first business was slow and wages cheap. Over the years we sprayed 200 barns and 300 chicken houses and also hog houses. For such a dirty job you had to have a weak brain and a strong constitution. At first I stayed outside then I couldn’t start the engine so I was at the hose inside for most of the years. People would ask “ Won’t it hurt the calves?” if they had any, no one ever asked if it would hurt me. We arranged it so we had the work in one direction went from North and West of Dewar, Barclay , Fox, Jubilee , Hartings and Benardens, all the way to Eagle. V.Frost west of Washburn within a 15 mile radius, went regularly to the Entz farm southwest of Washburn. Worked mostly on Saturday, a good day we cleared $100.00 , That
was a fortune then. We also had 1 or 2 cows then. We peddled milk around town for 10 or 12 years, got 12 cents a quart then and later on 15 cents. Dad also did a lot of repair work around town after so called retirement."
